Independent web designer

Frequently Asked Questions

• Do you guarantee I will love my new website?

YES! The policies I have in my contract are client satisfaction driven. The major policy that ensures you will be happy with your website is my "Pay on Approval" policy. To get started, I require a deposit (the amount will depend on the total cost of the website). The final balance isn’t due until you approve everything.  Throughout the enitre project lifecycle, you’ll be able to see live progress as work gets completed, request revisions, offer suggestions, and discuss any thoughts with me.  It is a collaborative work in progress until you are thrilled with the result, and only then is the final balance due.

• How do you price your services?

I price my services on a per project basis.  As an independent web developer and designer, I don’t have the overhead of large marketing and design firms.  This allows my rates to be flexible and extremely competitive. The cost of your website will depend on its scope and required functionality. To get started, fill out my Name Your Price form .  Once I receive your information, I will follow up with any initial questions and then provide a proposal.

• What can I expect when we work together?

As your exclusive web designer, I will be in regular contact with you during the development of your website.  Before beginning any work, we agree on the contract terms.  Typically, a 30-50% deposit is required.  The site gets created on my server, and I provide a link for you to view live progress.  You are able to offer feedback as the site gets created. I welcome your criticism during development to make sure the new website meets your expectations. Once you are completely satisifed with the work I do for you, the final balance is paid, and I install the site on your server.   We can always discuss the project by email or over the phone, and in person when possible. • What is a Content Management System, and do I get one?

Every Sterling Website includes a Content Management System (CMS).  The custom CMS I develop for you will allow you to change text and images on every page of your website. The CMS will be created around the functionality and design of your website, allowing you to manage other important tools, such as news, site members, image galleries, video, event calanders, and much more!  Your Content Management System’s abilities will depend on the functions of your website.

• What about website maintenance?

All Sterling Websites include a custom Content Management System, which allows you and your associates to make certain website changes without my help.  Website maintenance that’s not possible through your CMS is determined on a per update basis.  I hope to be your "go to guy" for all of your future web design and print media needs.

• What about web hosting and domain registration?

It costs next to nothing to register and host a domain.  Hosting starts around $5/month, and registering a domain name costs $10 per year.  As your web designer I can help you choose a domain name, and determine the best hosting account.

• Who owns the website once it’s live?

You do!  You will be purchasing the hosting account, which contains all of your website files.  This makes you the owner, and puts you in total control of the content of your website.

• How quick is your turnaround time for a website?

This of course depends on the size of the project.   For large projects (20+ pages), the typical turn around time is 30-35 days.  For smaller projects, turn around time is usually 7-14 days.  This will also depend on my schedule, your deadline, and how quickly I receive all the content that is to be included on your website.

• Where are you located?

I work with clients all over the United States.  I am based out of Maui, Hawaii, and I provide Hawaii Web Design services throughout the Hawaiian Islands.  If I’m not in your area – no problem!  Most of the examples in my portfolio were completed by working long-distance.  There are absolutely no limitations working this way.  If you’re working with a large budget and would prefer in person meetings, I may be able to travel to your city.  If you are hesitant about working with a Hawaii web designer long distance, I ask that you judge me by my portfolio, the process, and my policies.  I would be happy to provide references, so you can verify my professionalism and commitment to my clients.
